Time for the hacksaw.

I really cannot tolerate this kind of backtalk from a sprinkler system.

I don't understand. Why do you need a sprinkler system? Doesn't your climate provide enough water for your plantings that a rain barrel and watering can are all you need except at major planting time?

There must be something I'm missing....

What is a rain barrel?

It's where rain comes from!

You see, when the Great Sky Mother has a 55 gallon barrel; when it is filled with dew, she pours it out all over California, resulting in "rain." Ancient legend tells of this happening often enough to support a large population of humans, but most people dismiss this as mere fancy.

Margie told me about "rain"! But she was clearly joking, because she said it could happen anytime during the year.
