A whole houseful.

Back when I was moving so much, I'd stash and return to my stuff every other year or so. I starting thinking of it as the Magic Store. It was like this awesome store, where I liked everything in it! And it was all free! If you can manage to forget some of it in between, that helps too.

After I spent maybe 10 weeks backpacking in Auz/NZ, it was a huge thrill to come back to all my other clothes.

When we moved to the UK we put most of our stuff into storage while we founds jobs, a place to live, etc. It took about 3 months IIRC to get it all sorted out. I remember being so excited to finally get into it stuff. There wasn't even that much of it -- everything we had fit into the back of a car -- but it was great to play familiar CDs again, and have a few more clothes to wear.

Hey Noel,

Where were you in the UK? We moved to London and stayed for 3 years, leaving a ton of stuff in storage in the US. When we got back, it was exactly like Megan described - I told everyone it was like Christmas and we got all this great stuff we liked. And we had managed to forget about some of it - double good!

Scottb, I've mainly lived in Edinburgh, London, and Birmingham.

The other side of rediscovering all your stuff is to pull out something and think "why did I cart this piece of junk 1/2 way across the world?" That happened as well.

Noel, word. And this after I've tried to do a brutal cull. I think you pack crap when you get rushed and sloppy and the default becomes "pack it! we'll deal later".
