But why do they think it is a self-portrait? It could be anyone. It could be his best friend or mom or girlfriend.

Dang, I flunked art as a high school freshman (really). If I'd had an elephant handy I could have gotten an A.

It totally is a self-portrait, though. Elephants are such narcissists. I used to live with this one, he was all "mrrrrrrrm! mrrrrrrrr!" like it was all about him, you know?

I'm assuming it's faked, until some elephant behaviourist shows up here and says it's real, but I'm charmed by it anyway. In fact the sweetest bit is the elephant arriving carrying its paintbox in front of it so demurely, like an elegant finishing school girl with a handbag.

I'm thinking it's faked. The trunk pretty consistently has a bend where a human elbow would be. Also, there's a cut where the brush runs out of paint.
